We all need breaks from time to time.
Stop the Burnout!
Yup we all need vacations. And yup, many of us look forward to the long and lazy days in the summer.
Yet what can you do when you need the break but cannot take vacation?
You find yourself knee deep at work, too much to do and cannot afford to take the time off. Such as a teacher when there is school or a mom whom never has time off, what to do to stop the burnout?
4 Easy Breaks for a Mom or Teacher to cut the burnout:
- Exercise-take a walk, do some yoga
- Relax- take a bath, deep breathing, put on some music and take your phones off the hook, close your cell phone for an hour. Let the calls and emails wait.
- Friends- extrovert? set a coffee date with a friend. Introvert? read!
- Hobby- allow yourself to get a bit lost in a hobby of yours ( don’t have one? develop one!)
Breaks are important to help relieve the feeling of burnout and stress. We sometimes forgetĀ about our needs and are so busy doing and working. We need breaks! How about we try to prevent the burnout feeling in the first place?
3 steps to keep you from feeling burnout:
Take a step back and think:
- When do I feel burnout?
- What can I do to make it better?
- How will I make it better?
The difference between step #2 and step #3 is subtle, yet vital. Step #2 is a blueprint or an outline of various options that you can take to fix the burnout while step #3 is taking the actual step. Unfortunately many of us do not go past #1, we either wallow in self pity or allow our miserable feelings to take over. However to help us get back on our feet and do something it is important to be aware of what drains us and take the necessary steps to try to prevent it.
Personally, I feel stressed when there is too much to do. I know myself, this is my burnout trigger. Normally I say, hey there is too much to do? I am not doing anything! However being that I know that is my burnout button (step #1). I know I can either ( step #2 ) ask for help, delegate jobs, or write a list for myself in order of importance and let some jobs fall to the wayside. I chose to ( step #3) do what is important and get to the stuff that can wait after I take my break! This helps me start working anew and I feel refreshed and ready to begin working again.
Good luck conquering, working and taking breaks!
