The school year is almost over, now what?
Hey! You want to leave your students with wonderful memories. How do you do so? It is simple! Make the last few days in school count!
Do not overburden your students now. They were busy studying and working an entire school year and they want some relief now. The weather is nice and they are itching to go out to play. You however has student reports or assessments due soon and you want to accomplish as much as possible. In other words you may be looking to cram in some more material. If you are evaluated on what you taught and on how much material you covered you may feel pressured now.
What to do when the school year is almost over and you still have a lot to teach?
So how to you accomplish them all? Pleasing your parents, administrators and students? and oh! also creating lasting memories?
Not as tough as you think!
Make the last few school days memorable by teaching differently!
Change your teaching techniques.
- Now is a great time for silly songs that help students remember important dates and names.
- Get them going with a school project, it will help them move and immerse them in learning. Involve our parents if possible ( that will impress them!)
- Take pictures of school/art work and post on social media if you have permission to do so.
- Have each child create their own yearbook with their memories. Ask them what was their favorite subject and why, the stories they remember, the books you read, everyone will have different memories let them treasure their own.
Maintaining classroom decorum is important even though the school year is almost finished:
Although you may be a bit relaxed being that there isn’t many more days left to school, it does not mean that the rules you worked so hard to create should fall to the wayside. You should still let students know that you expect them to follow the rules. If however there are some changes such as you do not allow talking in class and while they are working on a class project or yearbook it is OK, let them know that it is OK. That is because if they do break the rule and you do not respond they will likely pick up that you rare becoming lax. Letting students know prior to beginning the project that it is OK to talk albeit quietly you are showing them that your rules are still in effect.
Yes! Learning can be fun and memorable. What are your ideas?
