How to get things done:
We all want to squeeze the most we can from our day, however we all just got the same 24 hours. How is it that some people can accomplish the world in one day while others are simply floundering?
We got to prioritize our time!
What does that mean?
People tend to first accomplish tasks that interests or excites them rather than doing what needs to be done first- the important jobs. We tend to think we will get to it once we complete what we are currently doing. This results in important tasks not getting done because there are only 24 hours in a day! The cycle repeats itself everyday, doing what we like and forgetting to do things that must get done. Something will soon fall apart because it cannot continue like this!
Many times businesses would flounder because the owner is not ensuring that crucial stuff get done.
In every business and job there are stuff we do not like to do, yet they got to get done and therefore you got to prioritize.
Prioritize means to determine the order for dealing with tasks in relation to its importance.
Before you prioritize, know your purpose:
First you must ask yourself what are your goals? What are you trying to accomplish? Are you aiming for a clean house or to teach a certain subject?
Now break it down. Such as at home you want a clean house so now ask yourself what do you need to do to get there?
Break it down in manageable tasks. It works for the classroom as well, what is your goal, why are you teaching this? You want to cover the unit of spring OK so what do you want the children to get out of spring? Is the overarching goal to know the season and be able to compare and contrast it with the others so all your lessons should help you reach your goal. You may have smaller goals however all goals should ultimately help you reach your big goals.
Let us say your overarching goal is to teach the children the season so now each week you will teach them something that will help. Ex: week 1 will cover what people do in the season, week 2 will be the environmental changes during this season etc. Realize that each week has a mini goal yet they all help you reach the overarching goal of giving children the skills and knowledge of the season spring.
OK so how do you do so?
How to prioritize:
- Make a list.
- Write it all down in order of importance.
- Hang it up or share the list via email or social media so everyone can see it. It helps you own up to what you said you will do.
- Celebrate each achievement. This will help you prevent burnout and motivate you further. Think I will take a coffee break as soon as I do abcd, do not take the break before and you will notice you will accomplish the task faster.
- Balance control- make sure your list has stuff you like to do with stuff that needs to be done, this will make it easier to accomplish.
- At the end of the day review reevaluate and rewrite the list for tomorrow.
