Stop juggling work and life:
Work life balance.
Really, there should be no such a thing. It should be called life. Imagine life as a box, inside that box there are plenty of things. One of those things should be work, others can be family, commitments etc. Work should complement our life. It should not detract or take away.
You cannot think that working is taking away from living life, it should enhance it.
Think of it like this. I work, but I love what I do. Yes, there are times I may need a break, yet we all may need a break at times. A break from work, or from life, sometimes we just need to chill! That is OK.
I like to say that my children benefit from my working. I need to work. Money aside, I need to work for I need to go out, work on my own growth and development. Not just spend time giving to others, I need to give to myself as well. Doing so allows others to benefit.
I like the interaction, the feelings of triumph and sometimes the pressure. Yes, I get self-confidence and esteem boosters from my work. I am not asking for my children or husband to cheer me on as I fold loads of laundry, because I get it from work. You see? My work enhances my daily living.
I like to share with my children my work so that they can feel and benefit from what I do as well.
Benefits that home gets from working:
What I learn from work flows over into my home. Soft skills? Time management? All are important for running a home. Not only that, there are fun stuff from work as well. Sometimes freebies, sometimes the attention from visiting my work, sometimes the late nights I spend working then feel the need to make up for it. The stories, the lessons learned.
I share my work life with them so that they can feel they are a part of it, and gain as well. They love sharing their thoughts and suggestions, and I love to listen and hear them out.
How to work and parent the same time:
• Invite your children to your work- help them see what you are doing. (it will make them more understanding and aware)
• Share your work with them and let them pitch in when they can. (Ask for their opinions, share stories and happenings)
• Allow yourself to air out a bit- take breaks from time to time.
• Do not feel guilty for working- it will not help or get you anywhere.
Yup, it is not work life balance, it is life sprinkled with a variety of activities, one of them known as work.
